Musical Geniuses

All band and orchestra students have been working diligently every Wednesday on their Genius Hour projects.  They first chose what they wanted to do, and then have had one day a week to work on that project.  The only stipulation was that their project be music-related.   Students are researching composers and instruments, making their own websites, composing music, arranging music, learning new instruments, inventing instruments, 3-D printing, learning sign language, making comics, drawing, making podcasts and many more!

Congratulations to these band students for making it into the Chapel Hill/Carrboro /Orange All-County Band.  Students were selected through an audition process.  They then spent a day and a half practicing for the concert then performed the concert under the direction of one of the composers - Ed Kiefer.  Pictured from left to right:  Eric, Carrie, Surya, Harrison, Lior, Lilly, Liam, Eddie, Andy, Nora, and Grace.  Way to represent Smith!

New Solos for All County Band (and All District) 2019 - 2020
All County Audition - Nov. 4, 2019 from 5:30 - 9:00 at A.L. Stanback
All County Clinic - Nov. 21, and Nov. 22

Starting with the 2019 - 2020 school year our county will begin using solos from the All State list.  Here is a link to the solo list.  It's never too early to start listening and working on the solo!  All County Band cuts will be decided at a later date.
